Hi! 👋
If you're reading this, you've found the very first post of this blog! The game I'm about to tell you about has been in development (by me) since 2024, and you're about to learn about it!
That's pretty exciting if I do say so myself.
What This Blog Is About
This space is going to be a "behind-the-scenes" look at the development process that has gone into a new board game - Going Once, Going Twice!
I'll look to post behind the scenes images of playtests, early designs, and my rants around the challenges of keeping the game balanced.
Who knows, maybe after reading this, you too will have the motivation to set aside a stupid number of hours on a personal project that may also end up going absolutely nowhere :)
What is This Game I Keep Talking About?
So - Going Once, Going Twice is the name of the game, or GOGT for short. I kid you not, the inspiration for the game came to me in the form of a moustache twirling, nefarious looking charcter sat in an armchair, with a monocle and a big nose that I did a little sketch of in my notebook.
And what has that got to do with anything?
That is just how my brain works I guess 🤷♂️
I started thinking about what this character's backstory was. Maybe this is all for a future blog post - but the TLDR: in the board game GOGT, you play as a character, looking to collect items from an auction that match-up with your requirements.
Simple as that. Wanna know more? Guess you'll just have to read a future post!
What You Can Expect in the Near Future!
GOGT has gone through a number of iterations. It's not quite finished yet, though its not far from it. From dozens of playtests with version made from scribbles on paper, actual printed designs, and then a full working game on card, GOGT has been a project that I've developed in my own time while still working. Looking back it's great to see the progress that I've made with it, however this final stretch seems to be the longest.
I'll be looking to post regularly on here to document the development and provide updates. The end goal is, as you would expect, to publish this in some form. My initial plans at this stage are to go the crowdfunding route (which has seen many success stories over the years for indie games) - but this is awhile away at this point. In the short term, I'll be refining and continuing to get to that final product, while also scoping out potentially manufacturers.
This project is still evolving. Things will change. Features will get cut. New ideas will appear out of nowhere. That’s just how creative projects work.
So if you stick around, you won’t just see the result, you’ll see the transformation.
